The local dragstrip has a new track and a new name. On Wednesday, the Cordova International Raceway held a ribbon cutting ceremony on the resurfaced track and other renovations.
General Manager, Bobbi Jo Cox, says last fall, the former owners Scott and Laura Gardner sold Cordova Dragway Park to IRG Sports Entertainment. The corporation spent more than 500,000 dollars on the new track, new grandstand, roads, and other projects.
It also owns raceways in Tucson, Memphis, Palm Beach, and near Washington DC.

Last year, more than 100,000 people visited the Cordova dragway. Cox says its premier event, the World Series of Drag Racing, is held on one weekend and attracts 20,000.
Cox has a core staff of five with about 100 full and part time workers during the season. Racers began to arrive to register for the IHRA Nitro Jam Summer Nationals on Thursday for racing today and Saturday at Cordova International Raceway.
