Grant and endowment will benefit community college nursing programs

Black Hawk College
Black Hawk College recieved a new endowment for nursing students.

A couple of new donations will support nursing programs at two community colleges.

Last month, Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg was awarded its second Nursing School Grant from the Illinois Board of Higher Education.

The nearly $100,000 will pay for cameras and microphones for Sandburg's new Science and Technology Center. It'll also pay for student nursing exam and "end-of-program" fees.

At Black Hawk College in Moline, a $250,000 contribution will create a new endowment for nursing scholarships.

Before he died last year, alumnus Stanley Anderberg decided to create the endowment to honor his late husband, James Cobin, a graduate of the Black Hawk nursing program. Cobin died six years ago. It'll be called the "James Cobin Class of 1976 Endowed Scholarship."
