Trinity College of Nursing Celebrating 125 years

Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences

This year, the Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences in Rock Island is celebrating its 125th anniversary.

Trinity Chancellor Tracy Poelvoorde says since opening in 1898 with four students at Moline Public Hospital, it eventually merged with similar programs at St. Anthony's Hospital and Lutheran Hospital.

"We actually have a very high retention rate within the community. In any given year it's 85 to 88 per cent of our students will stay within the community."

Poelvoorde says Trinity now has about 200 students enrolled in a variety of bachelor's and masters degree programs. About 30 per cent come from outside of Illinois and Iowa.

It recently added a program for former military medics.

"At Trinity College we say for that service and that work thay you have completed, we will give you nine credits of advanced standing credit to come in to our bachelor's program. "

Just last month it also added a program for Medical Laboratory Sciences.

Trinity College is located in Rock Island, near the Unity Point Health-Trinity hospital.
