UnityPoint Health Considers Working With New Mexico-Based Hospital Group

Presbyterian Healthcare Services

One day after Genesis Health System joined forces with another medical group, UnityPoint Health says it may do the same.

Thursday it announced an agreement with New Mexico-based Presbyterian Healthcare Services to explore the possible formation of a "new healthcare organization."

UnityPoint Health is headquartered in West Des Moines, and serves Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa, including hospitals and clinics in the Quad Cities. 32,000 employees work in clinics, hospitals, and mental health centers.

Presbyterian Healthcare Services is a private not-for-profit health care system. It owns and operates 8 hospitals in 7 New Mexico communities, and also operates Presbyterian Health Plan.

UnityPoint says if they form a new healthcare organization, both would keep their names and local identities, and save some money now spent on administrative costs.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
