Hospitals in the Genesis Health System are now treating a total of 53 people for the coronavirus, compared with 42 a week ago. 19 of the current patients are in intensive care, up from 11 last week.

That's the highest COVID patient count for Genesis since last December.

Most of the current patients are age 50 and above, while only ten are younger than 50.

UnityPoint Health - Trinity is now treating 47 patients at its Quad Cities area hospitals, versus 36 last week. And this week, 13 are in icu's - up from 5 a week ago.

Since last December, more than 90% of Trinity's hospitalized COVID-19 patients have been un-vaccinated.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
