Yang Talks to Veterans

The US could, and should, take much better care of our veterans, but instead spends billions of dollars on corporate bailouts. That was the message Wednesday from Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang at an American Legion Hall in Davenport.

He says only a small fraction of those billions would provide the Veterans Administration with all the money and resources it needs.

"We invest 650 billion dollars a year that we know about in the military-industrial complex, but we know far too little of that actually goes to veterans after you return home. And that's not the way you run a country or an organization. To me, it starts when someone joins the military and then it ends the day they die."

Yang says although he agrees with the sentiment of "thank you for your service," if we really want to thank veterans we'd make sure thay have adequate housing, good medical care, and jobs.

This is Yang's 23rd campaign trip to Iowa, and it was day two of his five-day "New Way Forward" bus tour, through Friday. Upcoming stops include Cedar Rapids, Ames, Waverly, Cedar Falls, and Dubuque. It ends on Saturday and Iowa City.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
