Volunteers are needed to help test water in the Iowa Quad Cities this weekend. For the first time, Partners of Scott County Watersheds will take a "Summer Snapshot" of water quality.
Spokeswoman Cassie Druhl says for years, volunteers have helped the group collect and test water in the spring and fall. And data from summer collections and measurements will help find out if farming, temperature, and other variables affect water quality.
She says volunteers will be trained before setting out to collect and test water from all the streams in Scott County. They'll also help with a new part of the water quality snapshot, looking for insects, small snails, and other invertebrates.
So far, about 28 people have signed up to volunteer on Saturday from 8 am until noon. Druhl would like to have a total of about 35 volunteers, so they can work in groups and help each other. A link to register for Saturday's Summer Snapshot is HERE.
