Tompkins Appointed Scott County Auditor

Kerri Tompkins
SCOTT COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

A former member of the Davenport City Council has been named Scott County Auditor. Tuesday morning, during a special meeting, the board of supervisors appointed Kerri Tompkins to replace Roxanna Moritz who resigned in April.

Tompkins represented the 8th Ward on the city council for six years, but did not run for re-election in 2019. For the past year, she has worked as business manager for MindFire Communications in LeClaire.

Until Monday night, her name had not been disclosed, and some members of the county board said they, and county residents, should have had more time to consider her possible appointment. According to the Quad City Times, the vote was 3 to 1, with all three Republican members voting "yes," one of the Democrats voting "no," and the other Democrat voting "present."

State law allows county residents to petition for a special election, and if there is one, it'll be supervised by the new auditor, Tompkins.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
