Putnam Reveals Periodic Table Exhibit

Putnam Museum Facebook page

The Putnam Museum in Davenport has added a new "element." An exhibit on the periodic table of elements opened today titled "OMg! Elements of Surprise."

President & CEO Rachel Mullins says the idea has been in the works for about a year, and its purpose is to show how elements are used in our everyday lives.

"So, as much as we thought we'd learned in high school about the periodic table, it really takes that next step in presenting the elements in commercial products, science fiction, all kinds of popular culture, and how we experience elements in everyday objects and experiences."

She says that the exhibit features "locally-curated" objects from the Putnam collection, and will showcase what she calls "treaures and oddities" that haven't been shown before.

The exhibit will also include chemistry-related experiments and demonstrations as a special feature on Saturdays.
