LumberKings Open New Season in New League

The Clinton LumberKings will start their new season, in a new league, Thursday night. They'll host the Burlington Bees at NelsonCorp Field.

Both are former members of the Midwest League, but were dropped from minor league baseball last year when it was re-organized. So now, they're both members of the Prospect League, with 16 teams across the midwest, from Missouri to western Pennsylvania.

The 60-game season opens Thusday night and continues through early August. The teams include the Normal, Illinois CornBelters, O'Fallon, Missouri Hoots, and Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
