Funding for ASC Headquarters Renovation

Money is now available for a major renovation project on Arsenal Island. Thursday Illinois US Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, announced 52 million dollars has been set aside to renovate the headquarters of the Army Sustainment Command.

ASC spokesman Rhys Fullerlove says the five-story building is 77 years old (1942), and not up to modern building codes.

"We've had funding requests to bring it up to code but never been able to come above the priority list. There's a big list that's all Army-wide, and we always fell below the cut line over the last several years."

Specifically, the money will pay for interior and exterior repairs, windows, walls, ceilings, plumbing, hvac, fire protection including sprinklers, lighting, electricity,  communications, and the abatement of asbestos and lead paint.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
