A long term care center and senior community in the Quad Cities needs help buying a generator before winter. Friendship Manor in Rock Island has started a new, $1.5 million capital campaign. It's called, "Securing Friendship Starts with S-E-C," which stands for security, emergency preparedness, and comfort.

Development Director, Jeff Condit, says the generator will help residents of two buildings make it through severe weather, such as ice storms and this month's derecho.

The generator is the first of four physical plant needs at Friendship Manor. The second is exterior security cameras, the third a connector between the second floors of two buildings, and fourth a new elevator.

Condit hopes Friendship Manor raises enough money to buy the generator before the end of the year. And the rest of the capital campaign will continue for a year.

The retirement community in Rock Island is a non-profit founded in 1979 by the Illinois King's Daughters and Sons.
