People who live in Dubuque County now have another option to get a free coronavirus test.

Michelle O'Neill reports residents can go to a couple of pharmacies.

Dubuque County already has a Test Iowa clinic which requires an appointment, after filling out a fairly lengthy assessment online. But Hartig Drug Stores and Union Family Pharmacy are offering free testing without an appointment.

Charlie Hartig, CEO of Hartig Drug, says the Department of Health and Human Services is paying for the test kits, supplies, and lab costs.

Hartig Drug started coronavirus testing last week, and it's done in the pharmacy drive-through.

It's a nasal swab test and only takes about five minutes. The test detects an active coronavirus infection. And Hartig says it's self-administered, with an employee giving customers instructions about how to do it properly.

Hartig Drug pharmacies offer the free testing from 7 am until 9 am at several locations including stores in Dubuque, IA, Savanna, IL, and Galena, IL.

Union Family Pharmacy also offers free testing in Dubuque from 10 am until 4 pm.

In Iowa City, Towncrest Pharmacy is also participating in the Health and Human Services free testing program. It's offering the service from 9 am until 3 pm.

Registration is required HERE (http://www.doineedacovid19test.com). There are no eligibility requirements.
