Family, friends, and police hope continued attention will help solve the Trudy Appleby kidnapping case. Tonight, a vigil will be held to remember the 11-year-old girl from Moline, who was last seen 23 years ago.
Last year, two billboards were put up in East Moline asking for information about Trudy Appleby.
The previous year, Moline police also named a person of interest in the case, William Smith from East Moline, who had already died.
But officers believe others participated in the disappearance and cover-up, and hope they'll come forward.
Moline Detective Michael Griffin says Appleby was last seen on Campbell's Island in East Moline, IL on August 21st, 1996.
Earlier this year, Moline police seized a boat which may be connected to Appleby's disappearance. The boat was taken to the FBI Crime Lab in Springfield to gather evidence.
The vigil for Trudy Appleby will be held at the First Baptist Church on the Avenue of the Cities in East Moline at 7 pm.
