Davenport residents will have a lot of choices this fall when they choose a new mayor. Wednesday Steve Duffy announced his candidacy, and became the third person hoping to succeed Frank Klipsch who's not running for re-election.

Duffy is a retired insurance manager and member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. And says his top priority if elected will be crime.

"I've never seen so much crime in Davenport as I have in the past several years. And we have to work on that with the police department and others to find solutions to control the crime."

Duffy made the announcement at Prairie Heights Park in north Davenport, where the Miracle Field, designed for people with disabilities and a project he's been involved in, will open in June. He thinks it will become very popular.

"It's going to be a surface that wheelchairs and those folks can compete on. And it's going to bn exciting area - it's going to grow."

With him at the announcement were his wife, friends, and some of the players he coached during summer league baseball as long as 40 years ago.

Tuesday 5th Ward Alderwoman Rita Rawson officially began her campaign for mayor, and that followed the announcement in February by 7th Ward Alderman Mike Matson that's he's in the race.
