CCIW Announces Winter Sports Schedule

A pandemic-shortened winter sports season will begin later this month for Augustana College and the rest of the members of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Thursday the CCIW announced reduced schedules for basketball, swimming, bowling, wrestling, and track.
Augustana Associate Director of Athletics, Dave Wrath, says for example basketball teams will play just 12 games, instead of the normal 25, and only against other conference teams.
"Our last competition at Augustana was on March 15 of 2020 and that was a women's lacrosse match at LaCrosse Wisconsin. So we have not competed in, it'll be over ten months, when we tip it off on the 23rd of January - so that's a long time."

The season will begin on January 23rd and wrap-up at the end of February. No spectators will be allowed at any event, and changes may be made depending on local, state, and federal conditions, and the availability of COVID tests.
Wrath says the CCIW plans to announce a similarly-reduced schedule for fall sports next week, including football, soccer, and women's volleyball. The season will begin in March and last about one month.
