Bowman will Speak at Augustana Commencement

Augustana College

A graduate of Augustana College will deliver the commencement address next month. Monday the college announced Doctor Al Bowman will speak to the newest graduates on May 21st at the iWireless Center.

A member of the class of 1975, Bowman earned a masters degree in speech-language pathology, and a doctorate in speech and hearing science.

He joined the faculty at Illinois State University in 1978, and after serving as department chair and provost, was named president in 2003. Bowman led the university until his retirement in 2012.

Another Augustana alumnus will deliver the sermon for the baccalaureate service - Paul Bailie graduated in 2004, and is now pastor at a church in Eagle Pass, Texas.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
