Ballot Set for State's Attorney Primary

WVIK News

The name of Rock Island County State's Attorney Dora Villarreal will appear on the Democratic primary ballot in March. That was the ruling announced Tuesday by the county's electoral board, overruling several objections.

The objections included: who circulated her nominating petitions, whether she should have listed her married name, and that she did not collect enough signatures. In each case, the three-person electoral board concluded the objections were "overruled and not sustained."

Following these rulings, and some earlier this month for other candidates, there will be four names on the Democratic primary ballot for State's Attorney - Villarreal, Calvin Dane, Herb Schultz, and Ron Stradt.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
