Augustana's 159th Commencement

More than 600 students will officially complete their undergraduate studies this weekend. Augustana College will hold its spring commencement on Sunday at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline.

Those receiving their degrees come from 22 states, one U.S. territory, and 13 countries. Nearly half were double majors, and nearly half already have confirmed plans for after graduation - either for jobs or graduate school.

The commencement speaker will be Doctor Eboo Patel, founder of the Interfaith Youth Center in Chicago, who was once named one of America's Best Leaders. He earned a doctorate in sociology of religion from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. And he regularly contributes to The Washington Post, USAToday, and CNN.

Augustana's 159th Commencement on Sunday begins at 2 pm. The public is welcome to attend.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
