Augustana Extends Bahls' Contract

Augustana College

The president of Augustana College will lead the college for two more years. The board of trustees has decided to extend the contract of Steve Bahls through May of 2022.

In a press release from the college, Board Chair John Murabito says during uncertain times like these, it's important to have what he calls "experienced, wise, and calm leadership. And this extension ensures a consistent approach and strategy during and through the challenging times we now face."

Augustana recently launched a special campaign to raise money to offset the losses caused by COVID-19, including room and board refunds, loss of revenue due to the cancelation of summer events, and to allow students to attend class online during the spring.

Bahls is the college's 8th president, serving since 2003, and is the 5th longest-serving president.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
