Augustana Adds More Sports

Augustana College

Augustana College is going to add more varsity sports. Tuesday it announced men's and women's water polo teams will begin competition during the 2021-22 school year.

Plans to add the sport were first mentioned one year ago, when the college talked about plans for a new athletic building, the Lindberg Center for Health and Human Performance.

Eighty high schools in Illinois now sponsor men's and women's water polo teams, and at the college level in the US, in Division III, there are just 14 programs for men and 19 for women.

Just last week, Augustana announced it will host a women's wrestling team, starting in 2021.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
