Abraham Now Interim WIU President

Western Illinois University

A promotion for the current leader of Western Illinois University. Thursday the board of trustees unanimously approved making Acting President Martin Abraham, the interim president.

It's effective immediately and continues through next June, with a salary of 294,000 dollars.

Abraham was originally hired to be Western's provost, but when former president Jack Thomas gave up the position, Abraham became the acting president, officially starting on July lst. Since then, he's formed four teams to focus on boosting enrollment, retention, graduate and international enrollment, and distance learning.

In addition to Abraham serving as interim president, Interim Provost Billy Clow will continue serving in that role.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
