Art for Everyone: Making Creativity Accessible in the Quad Cities

In this engaging episode of What's Happenin' QC, we sit down with Tara Malnar, co-founder of The ARTery in Rock Island, to delve into the heart of the gallery's mission and its dedication to fostering a vibrant art community in the Quad Cities. Following its revival after a brief hiatus in 2020, The ARTery has emerged as a cornerstone for local artists, offering a variety of studio spaces, workshops, and monthly events designed to make art accessible and engaging for everyone.

Join us as Tara shares the exciting initiatives coming up at The ARTery, particularly the eagerly anticipated Second Saturday Clothing Mending and Repair workshop on March 8th. This event will showcase visible mending techniques and encourage community participation, exemplifying The ARTery's commitment to sustainability and creativity. We'll also discuss their popular "Final Friday" events, which feature opening and closing receptions for local artists and rotating exhibitions every two months, providing opportunities for artists to connect with the community and showcase their work.

Tara reflects on her personal artistic journey, from her childhood passion for drawing to her studies at Northern Illinois University. Her enthusiasm for art and dedication to supporting local artists are evident throughout our conversation. We also explore the broader Quad Cities art scene, where venues like Roz Talks and the DeSoto Gallery contribute to a rich tapestry of creative expression. With a strong belief that art is essential to human expression, Tara aims to build confidence and create opportunities for artists, reinforcing The ARTery's role as a vital community hub for artistic exploration.
