Ryan Saddler

In this episode, we delve into the upcoming events happening in the Quad Cities area to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Ryan Saddler, Executive Director of Friends of MLK. We start off by discussing the annual MLK Day celebration taking place on January 15th at the MLK Interpretive Center in Davenport. The event will feature a keynote speech by Michael Cribbs, a prominent figure in his local church. The theme for this year's celebration is "What's in your life's blueprint," inspired by one of Dr. King's powerful speeches. Alongside the program, there will be special music performances and a delicious meal for attendees to enjoy. For more information, be sure to visit the Friends of MLK Facebook page.

Moving on, we highlight a winter gala organized by the Friends of MLK on January 20th at St. Ambrose University's Rogalski Center. This gala is an opportunity to commemorate the organization's history and the upcoming MLK Memorial Park. To attend this grand event, make sure to purchase your tickets by January 16th-17th through the Friends of MLK website at fomlk.com.

Next on our list is the Quad City Gospel Celebration, taking place on January 23rd at the Adler Theatre. This exciting event will showcase various local gospel vocalists, choirs, and groups, including Jerry Johnson and the Voices of the QC, Gospel Mission Temple, and many more. Admission to the celebration is free, but it's advised to reserve your tickets in advance via the Friends of MLK Facebook page. Additionally, WQPT will be filming the event as part of a documentary series on gospel music, scheduled to air in February.

We also take the time to delve into the mission of Friends of MLK. This organization was established to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. in Davenport and to advocate for civil and human rights for all. We explore the history of Friends of MLK and their efforts in developing the MLK Interpretive Center at the intersection of 5th and Brady streets. This center has become a hub for community events and discussions centered around MLK's teachings.

Lastly, Ryan shares his personal connection to the organization's mission and emphasizes the importance of celebrating MLK. He encourages listeners to attend one of the MLK day events or take a moment to reflect on King's impactful speeches at home on the holiday. Don't miss this insightful episode that sheds light on the power of unity, justice, and remembering the incredible legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
