Talking Art with Kevin Maynard

Investment in the arts results in tremendous, wide-spread economic benefits to the larger community. In this second part of our series, Kevin Maynard, Executive Director of Quad City Arts, discusses the various ways in which businesses, corporations, and city governments can support local artists.

Quad City Arts operates two galleries where original art can be purchased in downtown Rock Island and at the Moline International Airport, and they also offer community-based partnerships for entities desiring arts services.

In 2022, Quad City Arts launched their Artist Index project, designed as a resource to increase equity in the arts for both artists and consumers. Artists create their own profile free of charge and upload photos of their work for sale. Consumers can then search for artists by artistic medium, subject matter, and various demographic measures and contact the artists directly, reducing cost by eliminating an intermediator.

Listen to the conversation here with Executive Director Kevin Maynard about how Quad City Arts has intentionally been building their role as an arts advocate, connector, and resource hub; about their commitment to creative placemaking; and how they beautify our community in ways less commonly known to the public, such as through their public sculpture program.

Quad City Arts is located at 1715 2nd Ave in Rock Island, IL.

Carolyn Martin joined WVIK as a host of Talking Art in 2017. A long-time fan of NPR programming with a love of storytelling and all art forms, she is thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with creative people who beautify our community and make the Quad Cities region an even better place to live.
