A showcase of homegrown musical talent will be held this Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Redstone Room in Davenport. Primarily focusing on the genres of soul, R&B, rap and the spoken word, the Underground Xperience series is a collaboration between the Underground Economy and River Music Experience.

This upcoming show features performances by the singer/songwriter and producer BN WhoIAm in addition to Soultru, Big Man G, and the Wontu Trees.

Originally from Rock Island, the artist BN WhoIAm was known growing up as Alicia Whitfield. Listen to our conversation here about her introduction to gospel music through her church in the Quad Cities, the necessary musical skills she learned while subsequently living in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina with her family, and the sense of freedom and limitless expression she has experienced with the act of re-naming herself.

The Redstone Room is located on the 2nd floor of the River Music Experience building at 129 N. Main St. in Davenport. Doors open at 7PM and the show begins at 8PM. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased here.

Carolyn Martin joined WVIK as a host of Talking Art in September of 2017. A long-time fan of NPR programming with a love of storytelling and all art forms, she is thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with creative people about their work in the Quad Cities region.
