River Action, along with The Camera Corner in Davenport, is hosting a Winter Photo Contest to inspire everyone to get outside during the colder months and enjoy the beauty of our local wildlife and landscapes — especially along the Mississippi River.
But it’s not limited to the riverfront! Explore any local park, wildlife area, or even your own backyard. Bundle up, grab your camera or phone, and take in the sunshine, cold air, snowy scenes, and winter wildlife. Even on chilly days, the outdoors can be stunning.
Anyone can enter — we have two categories: Professional and Amateur. Photographers of all ages, skill levels, and equipment types are welcome! If you’re using a phone, Polaroid, or older camera, you’ll fit into the Amateur category. The Professional category is for those with higher-resolution cameras like DSLRs or mirrorless systems. We want everyone — from hobbyists to professionals — to have a fair chance.
There’s a $10 submission fee per photo, with no limit on entries. All proceeds go directly to River Action as part of our year-end fundraiser. Submissions open December 1 and close January 12 at midnight.
Prizes include:
● First-Place Professional: Cover feature in River Action’s February Eddy Magazine, a $100 Camera Corner gift card, and a 16” x 24” metal print of the winning image.
● First-Place Amateur: Inside front-cover feature, a $50 Camera Corner gift card, and a 16” x 24” Coda Print of the winning image.
● Second and Third Places: Receive Coda Prints (12” x 18” for professionals, 8” x 12” for amateurs).
Eight judges — four professional and four amateur — will review entries. Judging takes place January 12, with winners announced by January 15.
We’re also offering workshops!
