River Action’s Explore the River Series invites you to learn about the history, culture, and ecology of the Mississippi River and Quad Cities. Through immersive experiences and storytelling, this education program aims to cultivate community pride, stewardship for our historical places, and a culture of conservation.
Cruise the Mississippi River on the Channel Cat Water Taxi or enjoy a leisurely Riverine Walk as experts present on topics ranging from local wildlife to early Quad Cities mysteries. There are an abundance of exciting events in the upcoming 2025 season that are now open for registration. These include a presentation by Kathy Wine, River Action Executive Director, about how Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines (WEDG) are shaping a more resilient, accessible and sustainable riverfront in the QC. Learn how our water travels from the Mississippi River to our faucets as a water quality chemist takes you for a deep dive on the water cycle. Explore the histories, personalities, and mysteries of Davenport’s oldest cemetery, or enjoy a stroll through a residential yard that’s been converted from lawn grass to a thriving native prairie.
New this year is a day-tour of the Bee Branch Watershed in Dubuque, IA, a $249 million dollar watershed project to eliminate flooding in historic neighborhoods, improve water quality, and improve quality of life within the watershed.
