The University of Dubuque Department of Digital Art and Design (DART) is highlighting graduating seniors with its annual DART Senior Thesis Show.
Fourteen seniors started working on their capstone projects in December and completed them earlier this month.
Department Chair Sheila Sabers explains how diverse the works are. “We have paintings. We have book covers, we actually have two books in there. This is the student each year, I get the honor of teaching the class, but I get the honor to see what their passion and what makes them shine, so it always looks different every every year.”
The students used industry-level software, like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, to create their digital pieces.
Senior Brett Shrake explains his work process. “I used the software Blender. I took that after I animated it and created everything in the Blender space and exported it into After Effects to add music and ultimately splice the videos together.”
The Moline native began two-dimensional animating when he was a college sophomore, challenging himself by doing a 3D short animation video for his senior thesis. He is pursuing a degree in digital art and design, planning to work for an animation studio.
The exhibition is on display at the Bisignano Art Gallery until August 1st, then it will travel to the Dubuque Museum of Art from October to February.
