Galesburg Public Library and NAACP sponsor two candidate forums, Silvis mayor and Moline township primary election set for Feb. 25th

Residents in Silvis can decide who the Democratic challenger will be for mayor this Tuesday, Feb. 25th.

Three residents are running in the primary for mayor, including Robert Cervantes, Craig Pirmann and Jim Nelson.

Democrat voters in Moline will decide who will be on the consolidated election ballot held on April 1st for the positions of supervisor, clerk and trustees.

The candidates for supervisor include Bonnie Johnson and Mary Beth Loos. The candidates for clerk are Kandi Weatherington and Hayleigh Covella. Eight people are running for township trustees including, Susan Powell, Rand Wilson, Staci Early, Renae Zeitler, Cynthia Comp, Matthew Hernandez, Linda Allen and Elmer Hallgren. Only four can be selected on the ballot.

Voting precincts are as follows:

  • Hampton 5 — Crash Champions, 1200 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline
  • Hampton 6, 11 and 14 — Silvis City Council Chambers, 121 11th St., Silvis
  • Hampton 10, 15 and 16 — Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 800 17th St., Silvis
  • Moline 20 — Pathway Church, 4330 12th Ave., Moline
  • Moline 5 — Bethany Baptist Church, 700 35th Ave. Pl., Moline
  • Moline 1, 2 and 6 — First Lutheran Church, 1230 Fifth Ave., Moline
  • Moline 3, 7, 8 and 11 — Sacred City Church, 1826 16th St., Moline
  • Moline 4, 9, 12 and 13 — QC Music Guild, 1584 34th Ave., Moline
  • Moline 10, 14, 15 and 16 — Christ Anglican Church, 1717 Eighth Ave., Moline
  • Moline 17, 18 and 19 — Western Illinois University, 3200 River Drive, Moline

In Galesburg, the NAACP Branch 3016 is sponsoring two candidate forums. The first forum will take place on Monday, Feb. 24th, and will involve candidates running for mayor and city council wards 2, 4 and 6.

The candidates are incumbent mayoral candidate Peter Schwartzman and challenger John Pritchard; city council candidates incumbent Wayne Dennis and challenger Wendel Hunigan for Ward 2; incumbent Dwight White and challenger Corine Andersen for Ward 4; and first-time candidates Tianna Cervantez, Demarkius Medley Sr., and Greg Saul for Ward 6.

The forum will also include township supervisor candidates, Democrat incumbent Kimberly Thierry and Republican challenger Jennifer Fredrick.

The second forum is on Tuesday, March 4th. This forum will involve candidates for the Galesburg CUSD District 205 school board. Residents running to represent the Galesburg Township are incumbents Pamella Bess-Tabb and Rod Scherpe, along with challengers Luan M. Statham, Jaclyn Smith-Esters, and Robert “Bo” Irons.

Residents running outside Galesburg Township include incumbents Tera Boettcher and Maurice Lyon, and challengers Jamie Harter and Benjamin Yeutson. Voters can cast up to two votes for each set of candidates.

City council candidate Wayne Dennis and school board candidate Benjamin Yeutson are unable to attend the forums due to prior engagements.

Local radio stations WGIL, 93.7 FM/1400AM, Knox College radio station WVKC and TriStates Public Radio, 90.7 FM, are broadcasting both forums. TriStates Public Radio General Manager Heather Norman will moderate both forums.

The first forum will be held in the Community Room of the Galesburg Public Library, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24th.
