The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) is opening the next round of grant applications for its Home Repair and Accessibility Program (HRAP).
The authority is allocating $16 million to the program running for two years, with the grant period estimated to start August 2025 through July 2027.
Local governments, intergovernmental agencies and non-profits can apply for the program, with a minimum ask of $400,000. Eligibility includes showing IHDA experience in administering programs for low-income households, housing rehabilitation programs, construction project management, and familiarity with federal and state fair housing and accessibility laws and regulations.
In a news release sent on Thursday, Feb. 6th, IHDA Executive Director Kristin Faust says, "Many homeowners are forced to prioritize their spending causing many to delay vital and necessary home repairs leading to a potentially unsafe environment for them and their families. It is imperative that our low-income and aging populations live in healthy, stable housing. I encourage local governments and nonprofit organizations apply for HRAP so they can receive and then provide this vital assistance to help vulnerable homeowners in their communities."
The release states that the average single-family home in the state was constructed in 1973, 53 years ago. The grant funding aims to preserve the existing housing stock by repairing health, safety, accessibility and energy issues.
Local governments and other organizations can sign up for an informational webinar on Monday, Feb. 10th, at 10:30 a.m. central time on the IHDA's website.
Applications are due Friday, March 14th, at 3 p.m.
