Rock Island County will soon open its own Fleet Management Department.
The service center is located in downtown Rock Island at the former Ace Muffler Clinic on 1429 4th Avenue.
Fleet Management Department Director Ron Finley says the center will serve all of the county offices’ vehicles, which totals around 200. He says that before, each department had to outsource repair services.
“The big thing about opening a fleet department is preventive maintenance," Finley said. "So, we can keep an eye on all the cars, the sheriff department cars, and all the other department cars when they need all these different services.”
Over the next month, Finley said they will work on the center’s finishing touches, such as installing new garage doors and painting.
He said the county hopes to have the department up and running by this Spring.
