The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) is issuing over $900,000 in grants to restore main streets throughout the state.
Known as IEDA, the Main Street Iowa Challenge grants are going to 10 Iowan communities.
The news release states the funding was administered through IEDA’s Iowa Downtown Resource Center and Main Street programs.
The city of Dubuque received $85,000 towards the transformation of a strip mall located on Main Street.
Washington City, located in Washington County, was awarded $100,000 to restore a historic building along Iowa Avenue to its original 1900s appearance.
In the city of Keokuk, another $100,000 was granted to create housing units in vacant buildings along its main streets.
According to the release, Main Street Iowa Challenge grants were first available in 2002 and have leveraged more than $70 million in investments.
