On Sunday, October 20th, LeClaire Library is hosting a 20th anniversary celebration. The public is invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony from four to six p.m. The celebration offers live music, children’s entertainment, and refreshments.
Melita Tunnicliff, library director of LeClaire Community Library, says the library is a home away from home. "We like to think of our library as what some people call a third place. People have their home, they have the place they work, and then they have this third place where they can feel at home, come and meet their friends and neighbors. They're not pressured to buy anything, and we can offer them resources that would be useful in their lives."
The library was founded in 2004 when two locals left over 500,000 dollars to the city in their will.
The library has grown to three full-time staff members, three part-time staff, local and state-wide digital catalogs, video streaming, online tutoring, computers, and fax machines.
The new renovations to the library will be unveiled at the ceremony.
