A Davenport High School senior has been selected as a semifinalist for a national scholarship program.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual program that has been awarding scholarships to high school students for the last 70 years.
According to the program’s website, over 1.3 million students enter each year after taking the Preliminary SAT in October. Semifinalists include the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Max Geringer is a senior at Davenport North High School and is the only semifinalist from Davenport this year. The release states Geringer is among 16,000 student semifinalists nationwide.
To become a finalist, semifinalists must submit a detailed application stating academic records and extracurricular activities and write an essay.
The release states finalists will be notified in February of next year.
