The City of Dubuque announces nine Youth Climate Action Fund recipients. The project aims to allow youth to organize and pursue projects that help Dubuque reach its climate action plan goal.

Michelle Kim, Climate Action Coordinator for Dubuque, says that the grant makes a strong impact. “The impacts of climate change can make us feel really hopeless and powerless, especially for the younger generation because they are the ones inheriting this earth. And so it's just a way to give these younger people power and let them know that they can make change even if it is just with five thousand dollars.”

The recipients were between the ages of 15 and 24 and received between $1,000 and $5,000. The recipients have until December to complete their projects.

Some of the projects done with the grant have been putting books about climate change in libraries and schools to make sure children have access to learn about climate change as well as educating restaurants on food waste and taking their compost to the landfill’s composting pile.
