Black Hills Energy wants to increase its rates, saying it's to recover investments made in safety, reliability and system resilience for natural gas service to over 163,000 customers across 133 Iowa communities.

The Iowa Utilities Board and representatives from the Office of Consumer Advocate will join Black Hill Energy in a 5 p.m. Monday meeting at the Dubuque Carnegie-Stout Public Library.

Residents can offer their input and ask questions. Last month, two meetings were held at Council Bluffs and Newton.

Black Hills Energy wants to increase rates by an average of $7.56 per month based on an average monthly use of 63 therms.

Back in May the energy company temporarily raised rates by an average of $2.94 per month. Following the IUC’s final rate approval, customers may receive a refund (with interest) for the difference charged by Black Hills Energy during the period between May 11, 2024, and the date the newly approved rates go into effect.

There will be a virtual meeting the next day, Tuesday, August 6th, at 11:30 a.m., and Iowans can access the meeting and additional details on the Iowa Utilities Commission's website.
