Rock Island County Sheriff Gerry Bustos will not run for re-election next year. Friday he announced he'll retire after 38 years with the Sheriff's Office, and eight years as sheriff.
His term will officially end on November 30th, 2022.
In his statement he says, "Now it's my turn to step aside and let new voices in our profession be heard and allow them the opportunity to carry the torch for the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office."
Just last month his wife, Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, announced she will also not run for re-election next year.
