Two correctional officers at the Rock Island County Jail have been fired after an inmate was beaten several months ago. Tuesday Sheriff Gerry Bustos announced the termination of Alondra Martinez and Mackenzie Martin.
Also Tuesday, State's Attorney Dora Villarreal announced the two women are charged with aggravated battery, a felony.
According to the sheriff, the incident occurred on January 29th. He ordered an internal investigation, and once that was completed a criminal investigation by Rock Island police began.
In her press release, Villarreal said "we commend those members of the Sheriff's Department who brought this incident to our attention and requested an outside investigation.
