Moline Unveils New I-74 Bike Path

Marianna Bacallao, WVIK News

The new I-74 bridge will have six lanes for vehicle traffic and an extra path for bikers and pedestrians. The City of Moline and the Illinois Department of Transportation unveiled plans for the new biking path at a ribbon-cutting ceremony today.

IDOT Field Engineer Ryan Hippen says the part of the path that opened today goes under the bridge and connects the corridor with other bike paths.

“Pedestrian, bicyclists, it’s a very important aspect to our overall corridor improvement. So, this initiative has been in the works ever since the conception of this project expanding I-74 to six lanes in this corridor here.”

Hippen says the eastbound lanes of the new I-74 bridge, including the bike path, should be completed by the end of the year.
