Investigation Completed of RI Officer Involved Shooting

Two weeks after it started, the investigation into a fatal shooting involving Rock Island police officers has been completed. Monday the Rock Island County Integrity Task Force announced its findings have been forwarded to the state's attorney for her consideration.

The task force includes state police, the sheriff's department, and city departments from Moline, East Moline, and Milan, but not Rock Island.

On October 16th, officers responded to a report of man beating a woman near downtown Rock Island. The suspect drove away, and once located, tried to run away. Police say they exchanged gunfire with the man several times before he was shot, and died, at the scene.

He has since been identified as 27 year old Akbar Eaddy. The four officers were not hurt, and were placed on administrative leave.

A decision by the state's attorney on the officers' conduct will have to wait for lab and ballistic reports from the state police crime lab.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
