Man Shot by Bettendorf Police Identified

A Silvis man has been identified as the person fatally shot by Bettendorf police on Thursday. Friday the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation released the name of 53 year old Timothy Clevenger.

Around noon on Thursday, police responded to a report of someone holding a knife to the throat of a 4 year old child. And when officers entered the home in the 11-hundred block of 16 1/2 Street they found a man, armed with a knife, and several young children.

One of the officers shot the man who died at the scene, but no one else was hurt.

The Bettendorf officer has been placed on administrative leave, and the case is being handled by the Iowa DCI.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
