A Bettendorf police officer fatally shot a 53-year-old man late this morning.

At 11:53 am, the Bettendorf Police Department received a report about someone holding a knife to the throat of a four-year-old.

Officers went to a home at 1111 16th 1/2 Street and went into a house. They found a man holding a knife and several young children.

One of the officers fired his weapon once and fatally wounded the man who died at the scene. No one else was injured.

The case has been turned over to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. And the Bettendorf police officer has been placed on administrative leave.
