Winter storm warnings will go into effect later today with rain, sleet, ice, and snow in the forecast.

For Dubuque, Jones, and Johnson counties in Iowa the winter storm warning begins at 3 pm and ends Saturday at 6 pm. Four to 8 inches of snow is forecast for those northern counties, along with a glaze of ice.

For most of our listening area, the winter storm warning goes into effect at 6 pm and is set to end Saturday at midnight. We could get 2 to 7 inches of snow and sleet, plus ice accumulations of 0.2 inch. Winds may gust up to 35 mph. The heaviest snow will fall north of I-80.

Knox and Warren counties in Illinois will be under a Winter Storm Advisory from midnight until Saturday at midnight, with 2-3 inches of snow possible and ice up to 0.25 inch.

Local governments have declared snow emergencies as a winter storm heads our way.

  • Davenport and Scott County from 10:00 tonight through Sunday at 10:00 am.
  • Rock Island's snow emergency starts tonight at 7:00.
  • Coal Valley's runs from 5 pm through Sunday at 6:00 pm.
  • Morrison's will continue through Sunday at 8 am.

The rules differ in each city and county. But in most, after two inches of snowfall, parking is not allowed on marked snow routes until the snow has stopped and the street has been cleared. Vehicles parked on snow routes may be ticketed and towed.

Don't park in downtown areas and central business districts until after plows have removed the snow. Drivers in Davenport may park for free in the city's parking ramps starting tonight at 5:00.

Also, don't park on residential streets until after they're cleared. In Coal Valley the parking ban extends to all streets, alleys, and parking lots.
