The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released the name of the person shot and killed by a Fort Madison police officer late Tuesday night.

Robert Allen Elfgen, 42, of West Point was shot at Scotts, which is a local manufacturing company. He was pronounced dead at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

The DPS said police were called to Scotts on a report of a person armed with a gun. The DPS says Elfgen was shot while brandishing a firearm in the business.

The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been released.
