"Portrait of a Graduate"

The Bettendorf School District is selecting a logo for its new initiative, "Portrait of a Graduate." So today, a gallery walk was held at the District Administration Center for people to vote on which logo they prefer.

Director of Curriculum Jillian Dotson says the initiative is meant to instill what they call graduate 'competencies' in their students, including critical thinking, communication, and responsibility, among others.

"Ingraining these skills into kids like critical thinking, and having self-direction, and having a growth-mindset, those are all skills that they need regardless of what path of life that they choose. Those are the skills that will push them further whichever career path they choose to take: in college, in the workforce, or just being a citizen."

She says graphic design students at Bettendorf High School volunteered to design a logo that best represents the 'Portrait of a Graduate' initiative. The top six were selected out of 15 different designs, and a vote will ultimately decide which logo is chosen.
