The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has released the names of the law enforcement officers involved in the fatal shooting of a southeast Iowa man last week.
- Burlington Police Officer Tyler Henning
- Burlington Police Officer Nathan Crooks
- Sergeant Kevin Glendening with the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office
The DCI said in a statement Tuesday afternoon that all three officers shot in the direction of Caleb Peterson, 20, of Burlington. Peterson was shot once in the stomach area.
Peterson was allegedly driving a truck that was possibly involved in a shooting at about 12:50 a.m. on September 11. When officers approached him less than ten minutes later, he ran from the vehicle with a gun.
The DCI said the officers chased him and a shootout ensued. The officers were not injured.
The agency said the results of its investigation will be handed over for review to the Iowa Attorney General’s Office, as opposed to the Des Moines County Attorney’s Office. The AG’s office will determine if criminal charges are warranted.
