Rock Island County State's Attorney John McGehee will soon start hearing cases instead of arguing them. Thursday the Illinois Supreme Court announced his appointment to Resident Circuit Judge.
He will fill the vacancy created by the retirement in January of Lori Lefstein, effective May lst, and lasting until the general election in the fall of next year.
McGehee was first elected State's Attorney in 2012, and re-elected in 2016. Prior to that he worked in private practice for 23 years.
Justice Tom Kilbride, from Rock Island, considered six applicants for the vacancy, then recommended McGehee to the Illinois supreme court.
