Testimony is over, and the murder trial of Stanley Liggins will soon go to the jury. Tuesday afternoon in Waterloo, the defense called its final witnesses, then announced the defendant would not testify.
The Quad City Times reports both the defense and prosecution rested, then Judge Marlita Greve told the jury to return Wednesday morning for jury instructions and closing arguments, then deliberations would begin.
The 56 year old Liggins is being tried for a third time for the 1990 death of 9 year old Jennifer Lewis of Rock Island. His two previous convictions have been thrown out by appelate courts.
