Davenport Fire Kills Three

Three people are dead, including two children, after a fire last night in Davenport. Firefighters were called about 9:30 Thursday night to the Five Seasons Trailer Park on North Fairmount Street.

After the fire was put out, firefighters found one adult had died, and four children were taken to the hospital. Two of the children were pronounced dead at Genesis Medical Center, while the other two were transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals in critical condition.

Fire investigators say there were no working smoke detectors in the trailer, and that may have delayed alerting occupants of the home.

Names of the victims have not been released, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
